About your host

Kelsey a Chado (The Japanese Art of Tea) Practitioner (Urasenke), Registered Yoga and Meditation Teacher (Yoga Australia and Meditation Association of Australia) and Chartered Accountant (CAANZ), who is passionate about personal and planetary wellbeing.

Beginning with language and culture studies, Kelsey has been making connections with Japan for nearly two decades. In 2019, she stepped out of the corporate scene in her native Australia and moved to Kyoto. Trading the West(ern Australia) for the East, she sought to refresh her body and mind.

Refreshment was found in a bowl of matcha green tea. A number of serendipities led her to Chado: a new friend, a library book, an accidental visit to a tea shop and meeting a sensei (teacher). She commenced study and tea became a way of life.

Through the practice of tea and mindfulness and with a desire to help others thrive, Sakucha bloomed.

About the venue

Artisans’ Nest, located in Newtown, brings the magic of handmade products, designs and work of local artisans and makers to a concept store, right at your doorstep.

When COVID -9 hit, thousands of businesses were negatively impacted. Local markets were also closed down, leaving hundreds of small, local businesses without selling outlets.

In September 2020, three micro-business owners and friends (from hosting market stalls next to each other), sat down and brainstormed ideas of how to keep their businesses alive. Markets, trade shows and events were their businesses’ lifeline and now that they are all on hold or shut down, these women needed to diversify and fast.

Enter Artisans’ Nest – the brainchild of Newtown local, Julia as well as Teresa.

A one-stop featuring a mix of homewares, stationary, jewellery, ceramics, skincare, gifts and much more, all locally designed and made in small batches.

With the help of locals, friends, generous souls and family, the three owners were able to source their producers, design the shop, paint it, fit it out, build shelving and open the doors to this gorgeous space that hits all the senses, perfectly.
