About the Artisan
Shoyeido is one of the oldest traditional Japanese incense companies, established more than 300 years ago. In the early 18th century, Rokubei Moritsune Hata began experimenting with incense-making techniques he learned as an employee of Kyoto’s Imperial Palace. He would eventually introduce a new world of scent to an audience beyond the realm of royalty. Twelve generations later, the Hata family continue to create beautiful natural fragrances. Shoyeido incense are considered among the highest quality, natural incense available in the world.
Shoyeido’s blending process is an art form. Their skilled craftspeople use centuries-old techniques to create fragrances for modern life. Shoyeido’s incense are used my many temples in Japan and enjoyed around the world in homes, offices, meditation spaces and beyond. Committed to preserving the tradition of incense-making and appreciation, Shoyeido provide incense experiences at their Kyoto headquarters and support the craft of incense in many other ways.
With respect for the environment, Shoyeido continues to set the standard in the market of fragrance. They have permits from the Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry in Japan, and the US Fish & Wildlife Department to validate that ingredients are properly accounted for and responsibly harvested. None of their recipes contain animal ingredients and no testing has ever been done on animals.
Place an incense stick into a holder (e.g. a small bowl with ash/sea salt or an incense tray). Light the tip and gently fan out the flame.
Use an incense burner made from heat-resistant materials. Avoid placing incense in a windy space. Ensure incense is extinguished after use. Keep out of reach of children. Use the product only for its intended purpose. Keep the room well ventilated. Avoid inhaling smoke directly.
