Description
This Takayama chashaku (tea scoop) will help you measure and transfer the right amount of tea to the bowl. It has been crafted from locally grown bamboo in Takayama, Nara Prefecture. Takayama village is famed for its high-quality bamboo tea utensils. The bamboo growing, drying and shaping processes require many years and a high level of skill. The result is a beautiful tea utensil that is a pleasure to use and will last many bowls.
About the Artisan
The Takayama chashaku has been crafted by a 25th generation chasen maker carrying the family’s 500-year-old tradition. This artisan is one of only 18 remaining chasen masters.
Care Instructions
After tea, wipe the scoop with a clean dry cloth. Avoid wetting it as this can introduce moisture to tea and cause the tea to stick during future use.
